What Prop 30 Means to our Manhattan Beach Public Schools
Despite the passage of Prop 30, MBUSD’s funding this year is flat. And next year’s revenue remains uncertain. While it’s good news that we avoided a $3.1 million cut, MBUSD has experienced a 22 percent reduction in revenue since 2008, according to Deputy Superintendent Rick Bagley. Schools Focus on Writing with New Research-Backed Approach:  Last month, Pennekamp Elementary School kicked off its new "Writer to Writer" program.  Nearby Mira Costa students taking Mr. Brown's creative writing course visited with third graders to collaborate on their writing.  Several follow up events are planned for this year. Principal Debbie Mabry started this program to support the districtwide Writing and Literacy Initiative and its new research-backed "Writer's Workshop" curriculum.  Read More
