STEM or STEAM = Jobs of the Future

The recent results from the MBEF survey indicate strong support from both parents and teachers of STEM/STEAM curriculum in our schools. The national movement towards an increased emphasis on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts is directing the workforce on an international scale and our community wants our students to be prepared. Here is the first of two articles examining STEM/STEAM and what it means to our community.

Thank You: For Giving, For Caring, For Helping

Before you sit down to your Thanksgiving dinner, stand up for our local schools. If you haven't already made your Annual Appeal gift, please send a donation that will help support programs and students throughout the entire year. And that’s something we can all be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at MBEF.

Manhattan Beach Chamber to Launch a New Program for Young Entrepreneurs

In January 2015, the Manhattan Beach Chamber will launch the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) for middle and high school students. YEA! is a year-long program that teaches students in grades 6-12 how to start and run their own, REAL businesses. Students brainstorm business ideas, write a business plan, pitch their plan to investors for funding, and actually launch their own business or social movement. The Chamber is looking for students between the ages of 11-18 to participate, and applications will be accepted until December 1, 2014, or until the program is full. For more information, please contact the Manhattan Beach Chamber at 310.545.5313 or visit www.ManhattanBeachChamber.com/YEA.
