Annual Donations to MBEF Are Essential Student Learning Opportunities
Each year funds raised through the MBEF Annual Appeal are critical to ensure that key programs and educator positions continue in our schools. Without this funding, MBEF-funded programs are subject to reduction or elimination. And these are the programs that truly impact student learning – that challenge our students with hands-on opportunities in SCIENCE LAB, foster creativity in MUSIC and literacy in LIBRARY, support social-emotional health with COUNSELING, encourage determination in MAKERSPACE, goal-setting with the COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER, foster team-building skills in PHYSICAL EDUCATION, and ensure more personalized learning and support for each student with CLASS SIZE REDUCTION. These are the program that set us apart. These are MBEF donations at work in our schools. Support the Annual Appeal.

Matching Gift Program at Work in MBEF
Through the generosity of corporate matching gift programs and our diligent donors, MBEF raised $350,000 during the 2020-21 Annual Appeal. Currently 13% of MBEF donations are matched by donor employee matching gifts – the potential to grow this is exponential. We encourage all MBEF donors to check the Double the Donation program or ask their corporate giving or human resources department if their employer participates in a matching gift program. You can double your donation and your impact today!

Thank You to MBEF's Loyal Donors
Our high-quality schools are strong because of the consistent support of our community – parents, neighbors, businesses, and the like. Because of this long-term support, our programs flourish with dedicated funding directed at ensuring their success over many years. Each year MBEF recognizes those donors who have contributed to our efforts for five or more consecutive years as Loyal Donors. We are proud to share that we have over 430 Loyal Donors who together have raised over $1,345,338 to date in the campaign. Thank you for recognizing the value in donating to MBEF over the duration of your students' education and beyond.

Get In The Know with MBEF's Podcast Series
Last year, MBEF's new podcast series, In the Know, was introduced to keep our local community informed about issues surrounding our local public schools. In each podcast episode, hosts Dan Hellie, local parent and sports announcer, and Ellen Padnos, MBEF Board member and parent, sit down with members of our community who are instrumental in the success of our Manhattan Beach schools and community. In our first two episodes of the school year, Ellen sits down with Dr. John Bowes, MBUSD Superintendent, to learn about his past experience in neighboring districts, his personal interests and how he plans to guide the district. In the second podcast, Ellen meets with two district PTA leaders, District Advisory Council President Wysh Weinstein and Grand View PTA Co-President Jennifer Cram to explore how the PTAs are the heartbeat of our schools, connecting families with teachers and administrators, and building communities outside the classroom. You can catch both In The Know podcasts on iTunes or on the MBEF Website.

A Big Thank You to SKECHERS and Manhattan Beach
This past Sunday, October 24th marked the 13th annual SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk in support of our local schools and children with special needs. After a virtual event last year, a record-breaking 17,000 participants joined forces to raise over $2.6 million. It was amazing to see all the students, parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, and even mascots, walking with pride in their school gear and waving MBEF signs in support. We are so grateful for SKECHERS President Michael Greenberg, Executive Director Robin Curren, Director of Development & Events Anne Kelly, and everyone at SKECHERS and the Friendship Foundation. A special thanks to the many students and parent volunteers for their recruitment and fundraising efforts at our schools. And a big shout out to our Team Captains at each school site – Jessica Cornelison, Pip Coyne, Heather de Roos, Carly Feingold, Jennie and Doug Hott, Omkar Kulkarni, and Jen Linney. SKECHERS, The Friendship Foundation and MBEF thank you for your support!
