Approved Grants for the 2017/18 School Year As a community-driven organization, MBEF strives to ensure that our grants are reflective of parent and teacher priorities. We welcome feedback and regularly survey our stakeholders to help determine our strategic direction and funding priorities. To determine the grants for the 2017/18 school year, MBEF’s 35-member Board of Directors worked with the District to identify programs that are most aligned with parent priorities and MBEF Grant Guidelines. $20 Million by 2020 Campaign MBEF recently kicked off a campaign to grow its’ Endowment to $20 million by the year 2020. Much of the success of our schools depends on the tremendous support from our community. Each year MBEF grants over $6M for educational programs throughout our District, most of which comes from annual donations from parents. When we look to the future of our schools, increasing the MBEF Endowment has significant advantages; it creates an ongoing source of income, relieves fundraising pressure on the Annual Appeal and upholds our donors’ values and priorities. Embracing Diversity - Bringing Inclusion to our Schools By Kathleen Gibbons Social inclusion was brought to the forefront of our community after a burning tire was thrown at the front door of Malissia and Ronald Clinton’s Manhattan Beach home in February 2015. Many families stood in solidarity with the Clinton family against the suspected hate crime and raised over $30,000 in reward money. With the perpetrator(s) at large after eighteen months, the Clintons turned the incident into a positive outcome and donated the unused reward money to MBEF by establishing the 2016 Clinton Family Social Inclusion Grants for the 2016-2017 school year. More on social inclusion within our community here…

Congratulations Class of 2017! On Thursday, June 15, the Mira Costa Class of 2017 will participate in their last milestone with MBUSD schools, graduation. Costa graduates will continue their journey at a variety of higher education institutions more prepared and with more perspective on the world. MBEF would like to extend our appreciation to those families who participated in MBEF's Class of 2017 Forever Fund with a donation to the Endowment. Donations are invested in perpetuity and the return on that investment goes to help ensure that the great schools they remember, stay great. If you would like to give a gift in honor of a graduate, you can donate online here.

Making the Most of Summer Summer is the time to slow down and take a moment to explore the world around us – whether through travel, new experiences, or a good book. The MBUSD recommended, and in some cases, required Summer Reading List by grade level will keep students engaged. In addition to reading, there are many local activities and camps for students to take advantage of during the summer months.
CAMP EXPO – If you missed the event earlier this year hosted by Meadows PTA, you can still check out participating camps here.
CAMP VIP – Run by MBX, our familiar hometown folks offer up plenty of opportunities from robotics to performing arts. There’s even a great camp to get kids ready for Kindergarten.
EASY READER SUMMER CALENDAR – Check out the Easy Reader's guide to camps this summer for kids of all ages.
