We Will Get Through This, Together
It has been a hard few weeks. COVID-19 is having a real impact on us all – our plans, our families and friends, our community, our schools, our day-to-day lives. We are grateful for our educators who are ensuring that important learning continues and that our children are engaged despite the challenges of an at-home classroom. In addition to the many resources that your teachers have provided, we hope that you will also find this additional list of Online Educational Resources helpful to your family. For updates on the school schedule and other district-related news, please visit MBUSD. One thing we know for sure – we will get through this, together. And when we do, we will say, when things were at their worst, we were at our best.

MBEF's Support Our Schools Week – Postponed
Originally scheduled for March 21-28, Support Our Schools Week is an awareness and fundraising campaign to support our Manhattan Beach schools during the current MBUSD budget crisis. The number of local businesses who became Support Our Schools Partners is incredible – thank you! As our challenges have shifted to manage COVID-19 in our community and beyond, we feel we must postpone Support Our Schools Week. The need for funding for our schools is still a priority, as is the need to support our elderly, local small businesses, and families now. As we progress through these challenges, you can help through a direct Donation to Support Our Schools. See below for ways to support our local businesses as well. Stronger Schools. Stronger Community. Stronger Together!

We Are So Grateful For You – MBEF's Annual Appeal Raises over $4.9 Million!
Thank you to our parent and business community for supporting the public schools in Manhattan Beach through the MBEF Annual Appeal. Because of this generosity, our students have access to programs and educators that provide inspirational academic experiences at every stage. We would especially like to thank our volunteer Ambassadors who helped lead the Annual Appeal effort at each school site – Monica Brudenell, Pip Coyne, Lynne Davis, Dana Gardner, Ellen Klein, Donna Maertz, Lisa Meyer, Geraldine Pepemehmetoglu, Jenn Remillard, Whitney Stephenson, Robin Terry, and Bea Zimbalist. A special thanks also to our Lead Annual Donors who have donated $5,250 or more. Check here for a Complete List of Donors. Donations to the Annual Appeal are combined with funding from the MBEF Community Partner program, the SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, the annual Endowment disbursement, and other initiatives, to make up the total grant to MBEF programs supported districtwide.

26th Annual Wine Auction – Going Virtual!
While we would love to gather together among the hundreds of premier wineries and restaurants typically in attendance, this year we will raise a glass and celebrate virtually. The Wine Auction has historically been our opportunity as a community to celebrate and support our public schools, but is also one of MBEF's most significant fundraisers. And this year, more than ever, we need to raise significant dollars for our schools due to MBUSD budget cuts. The virtual 26th Annual Manhattan Wine Auction is sure to be a unique experience that will embrace your love of wine, shopping, and fellowship all while supporting our local schools. Click here for more information. Cheers!

SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk Raises Almost $200K for MB Schools!
The 11th Anniversary SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk was the best yet, thanks to our Manhattan Beach community and our partners at the SKECHERS Foundation. Our heartfelt thanks to SKECHERS President Michael Greenberg, SKECHERS Foundation Executive Director Robin Curren, and Director of Development & Events Anne Kelly, as well as the Friendship Foundation team for their tireless efforts. Try Take Out to Support Our Local Restaurants
The restaurants we love to frequent need our help during this current phase of social distancing and quarantines. If you are wondering which restaurants are still open and where you can get take out, check out the list of Meals 2GO MB that the MB Chamber of Commerce has pulled together for your reference. This is changing rapidly and the Chamber is doing its best to update it as quickly as possible. You can still get your favorite dish and help our local restaurants!

Celebrating the Lunar New Year at Meadows Elementary
Last month Meadows Elementary welcomed the Year of the Rat with a cultural assembly and colorful dance performance by the Immortals Lion Dance Team. Betty Wan, a parent at Meadows, collaborated with K-5 teachers to bring students grade-level appropriate educational materials and instruction on the cultural and traditional practices related to the Lunar New Year. This special opportunity included creative lesson plans on the mythology and imagery behind the Lion Dance, the practice of martial arts, and the significance of the celebration in a cultural context. MBEF was proud to support the program to raise cultural awareness through a Social Inclusion Grant awarded to the Wan Family and Meadows Elementary first grade teacher, Ms. Gregorio.
