MBEF is pleased to bring renowned author and parenting expert, Julie Lythcott-Haims to our community on March 24th and 25th. In her presentation based on her New York Times bestseller, How to Raise an Adult, Lythcott-Haims will invite us to examine our behaviors and join the growing movement to allow children to develop the resourcefulness, resilience, and inner determination necessary for success. In light of the recent college admissions scandal, Julie's message is timely. MBEF's Annual Appeal – We Are So Grateful For You!
THANK YOU to our parent and business community for your generous support of MBEF’s Annual Appeal this year. Together we raised just under $5 million dollars to support our schools. We would especially like to thank our volunteer site reps who helped lead the Annual Appeal effort – Anna Bargagliotti, Monica Brudenell, Lynne Davis, Ellen Klein, Katie LeRosen, Erica Lewis, Dana Lupton, Kate Malik, Lisa Meyer, Heidi Nelson, Amy Pearce, Whitney Stephenson, and Bea Zimbalist. Together, we did it again. Special thanks also to our Lead Annual Appeal Donors who have donated $5,250 or more. A complete list of Donors is available online and will be available in print in MBEF's Annual Report & Honor Roll mailed in the summer. If you didn't get the chance to Donate or Pledge yet this year, there is still time. With every gift, large and small, we are able to sustain the programs that directly impact our students. 


Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk Raises $175,000 for Manhattan Beach Schools
The 10th Anniversary SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk was the best yet, thanks to our Manhattan Beach community. It was an inspirational day that raised over $2 Million for the Friendship Foundation and all local Education Foundations – including $175,000 for our Manhattan Beach Schools. Our heartfelt thanks to SKECHERS President Michael Greenberg, SKECHERS Foundation Executive Director Robin Curren, and the Friendship Foundation team for their tireless efforts. Our appreciation also to our School Team Captains – Sue Antrobius, Skylar Herdman, Shivani Mehrotra, Thuy Pham, Jenni Tucker, and Vicki Tyler.


Save the Date for the 25th Annual Manhattan Wine Auction
Mark your calendars for the silver anniversary of Manhattan Beach’s biggest party with a purpose! The 25th Anniversary of the Manhattan Wine Auction will be held on Saturday, June 8th at 4:30pm at the Manhattan Country Club. General admission tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 1st at 6:00am. The Wine Auction sells out every year, so don't delay in securing tickets for this year's spectacular event! Explore Endless Possibilities at Mira Costa's STEM Night
Join the Technology and Engineering Department on Tuesday, March 26th from 6-8pm for their inaugural STEM Night in the MCHS Cafeteria. The night is intended to give the community a better understanding of STEM fields and opportunities, inspire career paths, and showcase Mira Costa’s STEM offerings. The program will also feature notable speakers in a fireside chat format, including Symantec Corporation Vice President of Technology, Bruce McCorkendale; LA BioMed President & CEO, Dr. David Meyer; Former NASA Astronaut Danny Olivas; Northrop Grumman Mechanical Test Engineering Manager, Lauren Smith; and Jim Stewartson, Product Senior Vice President at Talespin Studios.


Eclectic Ensembles with the MCHS – Friday, March 22nd 
Join the MCHS Band and Orchestra on Friday, March 22nd for an evening of lively and unexpected musical offerings, food and fun. Pizza will be available for $5 a slice, along with complimentary coffee and dessert from 6 to 7pm in the MCHS Cafeteria. The performances will follow from 7 to 9pm in the MCHS Small Auditorium. Pre-purchase tickets for $20/adult and $5/student – seating is limited and will likely sell out. Tickets will only be sold the day of the performance based on availability. All proceeds benefit the MCHS Band and Orchestra programs.



Join Grand View's Exer Urgent Care Gator Run Benefitting MBEF
On Saturday, May 4th, the Grand View Gators are hosting their 24th annual Exer Urgent Care Gator Run. All proceeds from the run support MBEF, so not only is the race a fundraiser for all MBUSD schools, it’s also fun for the whole family! This is a wonderful community event that brings together serious runners, joyful joggers, and laid-back walkers. Register online or go to the Grand View Website for more information. South Bay Families Connected Speaker Series: Rodney Mullen "Carving Out Your Creativity – Thursday, March 28th
Rodney Mullen won his first world skateboard championship when he was 14, went on to win 34 out of 35 freestyle contests over the next decade, and is considered the most influential street-skater in the history of the sport. He was also inducted into the Skateboard Hall of Fame and co-founded World Industries, the largest skate company in the 90’s. The Cathedral Concert by the Mira Costa Choirs – Tuesday, March 26th 
The MCHS Choirs present the Cathedral Concert on Tuesday, March 26th at 7:30pm at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach. It will be a wonderful evening of music featuring Mira Costa's own Vocal Ensemble and Choral Union. This is an annual fundraiser for Mira Costa Choirs  you can purchase your tickets online or for more information, please contact the Director of MCHS Choirs, Michael Hayden.



Mira Costa Spring Production: The Drowsy Chaperone
Don’t miss Mira Costa Drama/Tech’s spring musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. The Drowsy Chaperone is playing April 26th-May 4th in the Mira Costa auditorium. Discount pre-sale tickets for The Drowsy Chaperone will be available online April 8 through April 26 at 3 pm at Pre-sale tickets: $15 Adult; $10 Student/Senior ($1 additional fee for online orders). Tickets at the box office: $18 Adult, $12 Student/Senior.
