We Need the Support of Every Family
MBEF’s partnership with our community through the Annual Appeal continues to strengthen our public schools. Each year, the Annual Appeal is the primary source of funding for these opportunities, and without support from all parents, the educational experiences for all students would suffer.
It's more critical than ever before. Please show your support today – now is the tIme!

Thank you to those who have already donated. If you are not sure if you have participated this year, please check the complete list of 2019-20 Annual Appeal Donors. A special thanks to our Lead Donors who have donated $5,250 or more. We are stronger because of you!

MBUSD Projects Cuts for 2020
For several years now, district expenses have been on the rise, while MBUSD funding for education from the state has remained flat. As MBUSD considers significant budget cuts for next year, it is clear that programs our community values may be impacted. We encourage you to keep abreast of all updates through the MBUSD Budget News & Information page, where you can find links to the First Interim Budget Report for 2019/20, the Budget Workshop presentation and Community Feedback, as well as all budget-related communication from Superintendent Mike Matthews. Learning the facts and getting involved in potential solutions will help ensure our students continue to have opportunities that low state funding does not provide.

MBEF Survey Results from Educators and Parents
As a community-driven organization, it's our goal to align our strategy with the priorities of parents, teachers, and community members. We always welcome feedback and survey our stakeholders every few years to help determine our strategic direction and program priorities. With MBUSD budget cuts pending, the results of the survey are especially important to learn what programs and initiatives our community prioritize. Though our parent response rates were not as high as the educators, the survey trends are statistically significant and will assist in making solid, data-backed decisions related to our grants. Teachers Across MBUSD Are Driving Innovation
Congratulations to the recipients of our Teachers Driving Innovation (TDI) Grants for the 2019/20 school year. Each year MBEF provides our educators with an opportunity to exercise their passion for teaching, develop ideas, collaborate with colleagues, and connect with the wealth of knowledge, expertise, and talent within MBUSD through the TDI grants. Grants range from a web-based learning platform to create virtual learning experiences in the Kindergarten classroom, to a digital microscope so MCHS students can study living organisms in the microscopic world, or the beloved Harry Potter Week at MBMS that brings teachers and students together to inspire a love of reading. Special thanks to Northrop Grumman for supporting all MBEF STEM-related TDI grants this year. Learn more about all of the approved 2019/20 TDI Grants here.

Social Inclusion Efforts in our Schools
Creating an inclusive environment for all students remains a priority for our community and the MBEF Board of Directors. Originally introduced in 2016/17, MBEF's Social Inclusion Grants focus on funding efforts that decrease discrimination and increase the inclusion of all community members, regardless of race, creed, ability, and sexuality. One of the grants this year, the Freshman Bridge Project, provides extra support for students who have less exposure to college and career resources and information. Another project is bringing our fourth-grade students to the California African American Museum during Black History Month to introduce new cultures and traditions. Check out the complete list of the MBEF Social Inclusion Grants here.
