MBEF’s Annual Appeal is Drawing to a Close
There’s no Better Return on Your Investment!

A drought in state funding has left our schools dry and short on the resources to maintain our great teachers and programs, and unfortunately, this is something that El Ñino can’t remedy! MBUSD receives less funding than any school district in LA County, and we are the only top ranked district in the state without a parcel tax. We rely on YOU – our parents, community, and local businesses to make up the difference. If you've already made your gift or pledge, thank you so much. If you haven’t, please do so today and help ensure that the many programs and positions that MBEF funds in our schools will be available for our students next year. Please give and give generously. Don’t let the well run dry.  Click here to donate or pledge today.

A Discussion with Frank Bruni, Bestselling Author and NY Times Columnist
“Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be”
An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania
Saturday, March 19th at 4:00pm; MBMS Multipurpose Room
Over the last few decades, Americans have turned college admissions into a terrifying and occasionally demoralizing process, preceded by test prep, tutors, all sorts of rankings and, a conviction among too many young people that their futures will be determined and their worth established by which schools say yes and which say no. In an effort to begin a meaningful dialogue in our District, this spring, MBEF is pleased to host Frank Bruni, New York Times columnist and bestselling author of the book, “Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be”.

We invite students and parents to join us for this important and timely discussion, where Bruni will share highlights from his book, an outlook that helps to provide a path out of the anxiety that the college admissions process evokes in students and parents alike. Through statistics and the stories of highly successful people who didn’t attend the most exclusive schools, Bruni demonstrates that many types of colleges serve as ideal springboards. He also illuminates how to make the most of one’s college years and suggests that what matters in the end are a student’s efforts in and out of the classroom.

Observations of a Parent, by Elizabeth Kunkee

Many parents, like myself, see Middle School electives as a chance to encourage our children to engage in a non-academic subject that will enhance their joy in life. Band, Film, Wheel, Drama, Art…But what about science electives? Here are a few of my observations, from my perspective as a parent and an engineer. Click here to read on…
