MBEF's 2016/17 Grants  $5.8 in Funding to Our Schools
Each year, thanks to your generous support, MBEF is able to fund programs at our schools that enrich the lives of every student. In determining the grants for the 2016/17 school year, MBEF’s 33-member Board of Directors identified programs that are most aligned with the priorities that were revealed in the 2016 survey of parents and teachers. The majority of the grants for this academic year continue to fund programs already in place – Class Size Reduction, Counseling, Librarians, Music Teachers, P.E. Teachers, Reading Specialists, Science Specialists, Teacher Leaders in Math, MakerSpace, Science and Technology.

We were also able to identify some shifts in funding that support community priorities, such as a Social-Emotional Health Leader at the Middle School and an expansion of Mira Costa's College and Career Center. To learn more about the 2016/17 grants, please visit Our Grants to the Schools.

Measure C EE

Support MB Schools – VOTE Yes on Measures C and EE
As you know, schools in Manhattan Beach are severely underfunded. MBUSD receives less funding than any other district in the county, and is 4th from the bottom of the state. Only a small portion of our property taxes supports education. To understand why, please review our School Funding Basics. Your donation to MBEF provides funding for programs and educators. The limitations in funding affect our school facilities as well, making improvements and maintenance challenging.

Following a thorough facilities assessment involving students, teachers and the community, our School Board voted to place two bond measures on the November 8 ballot to address the most immediate needs and improve aging Manhattan Beach school facilities. Measure C will raise $114 million to renovate & improve elementary schools and the preschool. Measure EE will raise $39 million to rebuild the Athletics Education Complex at Mira Costa High School. Learn more about how to Support MB Schools here. Volunteer support is particularly critical at this time.

   Pier to Pier

Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk – Sunday, October 23
The annual SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk is a great event that brings our community together for one common purpose – to support children. Last year MBEF received $130,000 from the SKECHERS Foundation for our school-wide participation – funds that support the many programs and educators MBEF is providing in our schools this year. The Walk also provides assistance to The Friendship Foundation, an organization that brings companionship and recreational opportunities to children and young adults with special needs.

If you’re unable to attend The Walk, please consider being a virtual walker to demonstrate your support. Please be sure to designate MBEF as your charity so your donation supports Manhattan Beach public schools! Join the MBEF Team or search for your School Team. Check out the Friendship Walk for more information on the Walk and The Friendship Circle.
